The Image Fulgurator is a device for manipulating photos. It intervenes when a photo is taken and projects subversive messages or motifs onto photos without the photographer noticing. In other words, it is an inverted camera that looks like a pistol and captures images onto other cameras. For Bismarck, it is simply an "apparatus for the minimally invasive manipulation of photographs".
For his invention, von Bismarck received the 2008 Prix Ars Electronica for Interactive Art.
Julius von Bismarck presented his current installation The Space Beyond Me at Transmediale 2010 (Berlin).
